Much improved. I've been staying here for a few days of each Christmas for the past few years to visit family, but was really having second thoughts this time as the hotel had become more and more run down, and the service (with some noticeable exceptions) poor and offhand. This year, though, things were very different. There is a major refurbishment underway and the public areas are lovely. Better still, the service was markedly improved and the staff seemed genuinely keen to help. New management? Very impressed.
The construction noise above our 2 rooms started at 8 am and its terrible! No advance notice was given or mention at reception. I found a note in the room. We were offered rooms at another end of the floor, but it would be a huge inconvenience to pack all our belongings from a long trip. I am hoping we will receive vouchers or monetary concessions. The noise is drills and hammering til 5 pm. Good location but pricey. We should have been told about the noise and there was no written notice in our 2d room. Very disappointing!
Nice hotel between train station (10 min walk) and centre of town. Tidy and new interior with good waterfall shower and large comfy bed. Shower screen could do improving as its too small to keep water out effectively and you end up with a large puddle. The staff were very accomodating even right before closing bar and happily helped out with food and drink as we arrived right before midnight.
Your experience could depend on if you have standard or the more expensive room. I opted for the more expensive room. I forget what it's called. But super amazing. One of the best room's I've stayed in. Lift didn't work too well. Breakfast was as bad as premier Inn. But pay extra and you'll get a great room. Also really well located. Off an island yes but the town is minutes away
Friendly, efficient and helpful staff. Best 3 (or 4 if you have soup as well) course evening meal I've ever had as a member of a coach party. Breakfast plentiful and very good. Hotel well situated for both town centre shops or waterfront cafes and bars.
