Any campsite that charges 25 for a walker with just a bivvy has no soul. I am researching where to stay when I soon visit England and it appears there are now many so called campsites which charge inflated prices for those travelling on their own. They seem to have to pay the same as for two people. My thanks to a previous reviewer for the information. I now have a better idea as to where I could camp at a reasonable price.
I arrived at this campsite in the middle of a two week charity walk across the south of England, after it was recommended to me at the nearby pub. I was walking on my own, and I only had a bivvy bag, no tent, no caravan, no vehicle, so I was very surprised to be charged 25 for the night. Even the warden seemed a little embarrassed but he had rung up someone else to check. It wasn't even as if I was taking up a pitch that could have been used by a caravan or big tent as there were about 30 free spaces and I didn't even need a full pitch anyway. The whole place was however immaculately maintained and the warden was very helpful, it just seemed to me that walkers with tents will be put off by the price. I have no idea what the price is for a car with a caravan but I would advise hikers to go elsewhere or to wild camp somewhere nearby, which is what I had been doing earlier in the week and wish I had done on this occasion.
Lovely clean friendly campsite.Plenty of loos, showers etc nice and clean and there are hair dryers also Ava. There are two freezers also Ava.Clean drinking water taps are dotted all over the site which is a real bonus so you never have to walk far for water. There is a onsite warden who is friendly and helpful and make sure that folks enjoyment isnt at the expense of others. And yes the site is quiet from about 10.30 at night which is good for children. The site is only a minutes walk from the reservoir, which is amazing and lovely for a walk. There is a lovely pub 10 mins walk which is friendly and has a nice garden. All in all a fantastic little campsite.
Excellent campsite set back about 200 metres from the shore line of Alton Water. Every pitch has access to points for drinking water and electricity. As the site is so new, there are no trees to provide shade, but I'm sure that will improve over time. The main block has very clean showers and toilets with disabled access. The campsite closes to vehicles at 8pm so it's great for kids to run wild. Just along from the campsite, you'll also find a playground and sandpit.
A fantastic new campsite on the banks of Alton Water Reservoir, this site has serviced, level grass pitchs, a brand new shower and toilet block and direct access to the water and the circular walking/cycling route via a new kids play area. The sites landscaping has some establishing to do, hence 4 stars. (June 2018)Top Tip - bring your best pegs in the dryer seasons as the ground is very hard.
